Here's a few parts of our Reddit strategy you can do for yourself, they're obvious as day, but underutilized af.
There's 2 things that work really well, and you can do yourself, and it will somewhat work if you don't spam.
So, the bottom line here is plugging your site into Reddit posts and comments, which is not as easy as it sounds.
Reddit mods are overzealous, and will actually remove your post or ban you if you randomly post links or self-promote, so how do you get around that?
1. The "LURE" Method
I came up with a name for this method, but I’m definitely not the first to do it.
This method has been around for years, created by sneaky SEOs to basically effectively navigate Reddit’s community guidelines & moderators.
I’ve broken it down to 4 “letters” or core parts of the strategy, it requires that you carefully think and strategize, and actually provide useful answers that solve problems, plugging your pages at just the right moment to avoid removal.
This meticulous planning and execution is what we do for you with our Reddit link building service - but there are other aspects (secret sauce) that we do to make sure you get even better results.
I’ve broken down the most FUNDAMENTAL factors of the Reddit Strategy into:
L - Listen to the community: Understand what topics are trending and what the community cares about. This involves reading through threads, understanding the rules of the subreddit, and identifying the needs and interests of the readers.
U - Understand the conversation: Before you jump in with a comment or post, make sure you fully understand the context and the ongoing conversation. This ensures that your contribution will be relevant and welcomed.
R - Respond with value: Your comments and posts should provide genuine value to the conversation. This means offering detailed, helpful responses, insights, or solutions that are tailored to the specific discussion.
E - Engage authentically: Authentic engagement means more than just plugging a link.
It involves building relationships, supporting others with helpful information, and contributing to the community in a way that feels genuine and not self-promotional.
Eric from Exploding Ideas (@ericlamideas) has outlined three steps to the Reddit strategy:
Three steps to the Reddit strategy
Here they are:
1️⃣ Share helpful advice that intrigues readers
2⃣Build credibility to drive newsletter subs
3️⃣Strive to be the top-voted commentIt's not just about the post, it's about the conversation.

Share helpful advice that intrigues readers: This aligns with your "LURE" method, emphasizing the importance of providing valuable and engaging content to the Reddit community.
Build credibility to drive newsletter subscriptions: This step focuses on establishing trust and authority within the community, which can lead to increased interest in your newsletter or website.
Strive to be the top-voted comment: This emphasizes the importance of not just posting content but engaging in meaningful conversations. Being the top-voted comment can increase visibility and further establish credibility.
Eric's tweet reinforces the idea that it's not just about the post; it's about the conversation.
His post provides additional insights into how to effectively utilize Reddit for promotion without coming across as spammy.
He utilizes this strategy perfectly, I highly recommend following him & checking out the post below as it contains a lot of critical information.
You find active Reddit threads around your topic, for example, if you're in the travel niche, go to r/Travel

An easy way to find great Subreddits to post on, is by browsing top performing subreddits & posts on: subredditstats.com
Here’s an example of the LURE method in motion.
L - Listen to the Community
First, you'll want to understand the sentiment and opinions being expressed in the comments.
What are their reasons?
This will help you tailor your response to the community's interests.
U - Understand the Conversation
Read through the existing comments to understand the main points of contention.
Are people discussing price, convenience, experience, or something else?
Now come up with a genuinely helpful answer to their questions, crafting a response that
Now imagine doing this, dozens of times, over dozens of sites, yeah, that’s what we’re offering, mainly on Reddit & Quora, but we can do forums too.
R - Respond with Value
Now, you can craft a response that adds value to the conversation, here’s an excellent example of this being put to use by @ericlamideas (explodingideas.co)

Reddit strategy 101
Comments drive more subs than posts
Your comments should:
- Link to your newsletter passively
- Be >100 words of value
- Read like a great storyA great story can quickly drive 100 subs

E - Engage Authentically
Engage with others in the thread by responding to their comments, asking questions, and providing further insights.
Be genuine in your engagement and avoid overtly promoting your site. If someone asks for more information, that's a natural opportunity to share a link or mention your brand.
I must add, branded mentions work GREAT here, because people will just copy your recommendation and paste it into Google, which has some SEO value.
If you’re an established business with a big budget, you can train a VA to do this, or hire an agency like us to build Reddit backlinks for you.
This means either you, or your VA, will actually have to sit there and come up with highly detailed, believable responses to these posts.
